“The Mother of All Acronym Generators” Presents: O.I.L.

I know I’m getting obsessive-compulsive about the acronyms, but media bottom-feeders have to metabolize the linguistic detritus trickling down the food chain. Check out Brook Gladstone’s cameo commentary in this week’s On the Media. According to Brook, we count on “the Mother of All Acronym Generators” (a.k.a. The Pentagon) to cook up “unadorned initials for harsh realities.” The latest gem is an acronym for the security crackdown in Baghdad, Operation Impose Law. Yes, that spells O.I.L.

BONUS QUICK QUIZ: USA PATRIOT (as in the Act, PL 107-56) is an acronym for what verbiage?

BONUS QUICK QUIZ ANSWER: The Uniting and Strengthening America by Providing Appropriate Tools Required to Intercept and Obstruct Terrorism Act of 2001.
